Chris is a former dental hygienist with 2 married children and 2 grandchildren who lives in a log home in the woods near Watertown, Wisconsin with her husband Michael. In 1987 her sister-in-law, Mary Sue, talked her into attending a quilting class and she was immediately addicted. She began with traditional patterns, working by hand and machine. In time she began collecting affordable antique quilts for their charm and link to the past. Eventually she started designing her own pieces and, since she had no training in art, was very excited to discover hidden talents. Art quilts were soon to become her delight. During this evolution in her quilting life she began sharing her passion in lectures, workshops, books, magazines and even while taking quilters on travels through the US and Europe!
Her award winning quilts have been displayed internationally, including AQS Shows (Paducah & Nashville), the Museum of the American Quilter in Paducah, KY, IQA Festival (Houston), Quilt Expo Europa, the World Quilt & Textile Shows and the First Quilt Show of the New Millennium in Christchurch, New Zealand just to mention a few (a complete listing is available upon request).
Chris teaches quiltmaking and design at two colleges in Wisconsin. She also teaches for guilds, shops and shows throughout the United States including the American Quilter's Society Show in Paducah, Quilt Festival in Houston, the Minnesota Quilter's Show and Vermont Quilt Festival (a complete listing is available upon request).
Her work has been featured in numerous books, magazines and her first book,"Repliqué Quilts", enjoyed a second printing. It is currently out of print, however a signed copy may be obtained by emailing clkquilt@gmail.com. Her latest book - "Snuggle & Learn Quilts for Kids" is now available! It features a collection of patterns for quilts to make for children which are not only bright and cuddly, but educational too!
She finds showing others how to create their own work very gratifying all the while believing that there is creativity inside each of us. She is so grateful for the desire, ability and opportunities with which she has been blessed and for her supportive family.
